Rafael Benitez keen on Valencia stopper.

Napoli manager Rafael Benitez may look to hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign Valencia centre-back Adil Rami, according to Forza Italian Football.

The 27-year-old France international is widely regarded as one of the most solid and consistent defenders in La Liga, and is known to be looking for a move to a bigger club this summer.

Valencia failed to qualify for the Champions League for next season, and Rami wants to be playing at a higher level to make himself first choice for France at next summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Arsenal have looked the favourites to sign Rami, though Manchester United and Manchester City have also shown an interest in the Frenchman.

But it now seems that Napoli could swoop to sign the talented stopper, with Benitez keen to make some strong moves in the transfer window after joining the Serie A runners-up from Chelsea.

Napoli will be competing in the Champions League next season but are likely to be selling star striker Edinson Cavani to Manchester City or Chelsea, which would leave Benitez with over £50million to spend on new players.

Other defenders such as Liverpool pair Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel have also been linked to the club.
