Italian source TuttoMercato claim Chelsea have made a £15m move for Udinese youngster Matej Vydra but have been told to make an offer nearer £20m before they’ll consider their bid.

20 year old Czech Republic international Vydra spent last season on loan at Watford, along with a number of his Udinese team-mates, and proved a massive success at Vicarage Road.

The speedy instinctive finisher netted 22 goals in a campaign that saw Gianfranco Zola’s side edge painfully close to securing promotion to the Premier League, losing to Crystal Palace courtesy of an extra-time penalty in the Championship play-off final.

Vydra returned to his Serie A side with no doubt a number of interested parties keen on acquiring his services however it is a tad surprising to see Chelsea making a move for the former Banik Ostrava man.

Jose Mourinho is certainly on the look out for a ‘Marquee’ striker signing, hence his apparent interest in the likes of Edinson Cavani, Mario Gomez and Robert Lewandowski, however a move for Vydra, who no doubt has a great deal of potential, is something of a surprise.

After all if the returning Blues boss is keen to use a young striker who he feels could make a big impact in the Chelsea first team then he need only hand Romelu Lukaku a decent chance at the West London club, the Belgian did after all impress with West Brom last term.
