Reading are set to sign former Real Madrid wide-man Royston Drenthe according to The Sun.

The 26 year old Dutch international’s career has gone off the rails somewhat since his move to the Bernabeu in August 2007 and Drenthe is currently at recently relegated Russian Premier League side Alania Vladikavkaz and appears to be set to move to the Madejski Stadium this summer.

Drenthe spent a moderately successful season on loan at Everton and in talks over a three year Royals deal and could be one of many signings Russian owner Anton Zingarevich brings in.

Zingarevich is keen to invest in his side to ensure they make an immediate return to the top tier stating recently;

“I think there will be five to seven new players coming in, including a couple this week.

“We have the targets locked up and, hopefully, they will work out.”

England veteran Wayne Bridge signed for the Berkshire club earlier this month.

During his five years at Real Madrid, much of it spent out on loan, Drenthe managed just 15 La Liga starts and is still awaiting his second Dutch national team cap, some two and a half years after his first.
