Spanish giants Barcelona are still hoping to land central defender Thiago Silva this summer according to Marca.

The defender very nearly joined Barcelona last summer but signed for Paris St Germain instead.

However, it appears that Barcelona are back for the Brazilian this summer amid reports that Silva is upset that Carlo Ancelotti will be leaving PSG to take over at Real Madrid.

It is believed that Barcelona want Silva to take a pay cut to join them as his current wages at PSG  are to high for the club.

Barcelona’s president Sandro Rossel spoke about Silva during a press conference and said, “His wage demands are too high, as it would unbalance the club’s pay structure”.

Barca appear to be waiting to find out whether Silva would be willing to lower his wage demands in order to join them and it all could hinge on just how much the Brazilian wants to play for the Spanish champions.

Barcelona are in the market for a defender and Silva is believed to be their top target after Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany announced that he would be staying with the club this season.

Other alternatives for Barca are Chelsea’s David Luiz and Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
