Jose Mourinho has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson told him months ago that he was going to retire and in the same conversation Mourinho told Ferguson that he wanted to move back to Stamford Bridge, the Daily Mail reports.

Mourinho also said that he had no intention of replacing Ferguson at United and the only English club he wanted to manage was Chelsea.

Manchester United replaced Sir Alex Ferguson with David Moyes last month and the move was considered a “snub” to Mourinho, who has long been linked with a move to Manchester United when Ferguson finally retired.

However, Mourinho claims he only had eyes for Stamford Bridge.

“I knew Ferguson was retiring many months ago,” said Mourinho. “I am his friend  to know he is going to retire, and he is my friend to know that the club I want  to coach in England is Chelsea. I would turn down everyone in the world — not  just the United job — for Chelsea.”

Mourinho has clearly enjoyed being back at Chelsea and has set his sights on improving the clubs squad.

The Blues have been linked with several strikers this month, including Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko and Zenit St Petersburg’s Hulk.

However, Napoli’s Edinson Cavani is Mourinho’s top target and it looks like the Portuguese manager will have to battle it out with Manchester City and former club Real Madrid for Cavani’s signature.
