New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho looks set to have a massive clear-out at Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Blues boss wants to make several signings this summer to improve his squad but needs to sell some players first so he can get more money for his signings. Here are 8 players who are on their way out of Stamford Bridge.
Torres is the most expensive player in British football, with Chelsea having signed him from Liverpool in 2011 for £50 million. However, things haven’t gone Torres way since his move to Stamford Bridge. The striker has struggled under the expectation of the transfer fee that Chelsea paid for him and has also had his fair share of injuries during his time with the Blues. This has meant that Torres has never found his best form while at Chelsea and has been shadow of the deadly striker he once was at Liverpool. While he played for the Reds, Torres was amongst the most dangerous strikers in Europe, frightening experienced central defenders like Nemanja Vidic with his raw pace and power. This is what Chelsea paid £50 million for.
However, many argued that Torres wasn’t playing that well during his final games for Liverpool and questioned whether it was right for Chelsea to pay so much for him. After two and half years it appears that Chelsea are running out of patience with Torres form, especially in the Premier League and new boss Jose Mourinho appears ready to let Torres leave. Mourinho said recently Torres could have played better during his time at Stamford Bridge and is ready to sell Torres and free up space for his summer signings. Barcelona look interested in bringing Torres back to Spain and are thought to be readying a £19 million bid. The Spanish club are searching for a number 9 and have highlighted Torres because he has played well against them in the past. Rafa Benitez new side Napoli are also reportedly interested in Torres and the players former club Atletico Madrid are also thinking about bringing Torres back to the club as a replacement for Falcao.
