Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Benfica attacker Nolito as Brendan Rodgers considers further summer moves to boost his Anfield squad according to Portuguese source Sapo.pt.

The Merseyside outfit have previously been linked with interest in the 26 year old Spaniard but may now step up efforts to sign the former Barcelona man.

Nolito impressed during his first season at the Lisbon side, scoring 15 goals in all competitions but spent the second half of 2012/13 at La Liga side Granada, making something of an impact and helping the minnows retain their spot in the Spanish top tier.

Rodgers has already signed defender Kolo Toure and Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas but has been strongly linked with further imminent additions and a push to bring in more attacking options would be a wise one to undertake.

Luis Suarez, who has stated his intention to leave Liverpool, will miss the first six games of the Premier League season due to suspension and Daniel Sturridge may be out for the beginning of the campaign with an injury suffered whilst on international duty.

Factor in that Fabio Borini is still to prove himself and there is certainly scope for looking to sign a talent such as Nolito, who can play out wide or as an orthodox striker.
