West Bromwich Albion midfielder Steven Reid has agreed a new deal to keep him at the club just one week after being told that he may have to fine a new club next season, Sky Sports reports.

The 32-year-old is entering the final year of his deal at the Hawthornes and looked to be heading for the exit door as he managed just 11 appearances for Steve Clarke’s men last season thanks to a string of injury problems.

But the Republic of Ireland international spoke of his joy at sealing a new deal with the Midlands club.

“I am absolutely delighted to be staying, I never wanted to leave and I am happy we have reached an agreement,” Reid told Sky Sports.

“I am looking forward to reporting for pre-season and hope we can build on last year’s outstanding achievement in finishing eighth in the Premier League.”

Reid joined the Baggies in 2010 when he arrived from Blackburn Rovers, initially on loan over a 10 game stretch. He then quickly agreed a permanent deal with the side but has gone on to make just over 50 appearances over his three year spell thanks to a series of unfortunate injuries.
