According to Spanish source El Mundo Deportivo Barcelona are closing in on a move to sign Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata with Jose Mourinho inexplicably willing to sell the club’s chief creative weapon.

There has been growing speculation that Mourinho would seek to find a buyer for the Spanish intenational and previously Real Madrid had been linked with the former Valencia man but now it appears Tito Vilanova sees Mata as a possible attacking midfield presence who could sit behind forward Neymar and Lionel Messi.

Mata has been a massive success since his move to Stamford Bridge, helping the West London side to Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup triumphs during his two seasons at the club, notching up 32 goals and a whopping 59 assists in his 118 appearances.

The pint sized playmaker has formed an excellent understanding with Eden Hazard and Oscar and it would be a massive surprise if Mourinho were indeed to consider offers for the 25 year old, who could consider a move back to his native Spain if he is to be forced out from Chelsea, where he appears to be perfectly happy.

Chelsea spent £23m to sign Mata and given that the attacker still has three years to run on his current contract one would imagine any move to sign the Blues favourite would be an expensive one but this source claims that Barcelona lead the chase to sign the talented flair player.
