Italian source CalcioMercato claim that Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis will meet with Chelsea this week to complete the sale of Edinson Cavani to the West London club.

A deal is reportedly all but agreed, one that will cost the Blues around €58m (£49m), but could also include additional bonuses to benefit the Serie A side should the 26 year old’s time at Stamford Bridge prove to be a productive one.

There has been a great deal of speculation as to Cavani’s future at the San Paolo and talk of such an exit has only magnified since Rafa Benitez took over at the Naples club and De Laurentiis appears ready to cash in on the Uruguayan international.

The former Palermo ace has netted 104 goals in 138 appearances for the Partenopei and is perhaps one of the best additions Jose Mourinho could look to make in order to boost his side’s fire-power, and there is no denying such a boost is necessary.

Fernando Torres managed just eight goals in 36 Premier League appearances last term and such was his low ebb that this return was actually considered something of a return to form, chiefly because the Spaniard appeared to have little problem finding the back of the net in Cup action.

Demba Ba managed just two Premier League goals since his January move to the club and Mourinho has already set about improving matters in the final third by completing the long awaited signing of Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle.

Edinson Cavani is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup so one would imagine that if a deal is struck by the two sides then the powerful forward would discuss personal terms and undergo any potential medical later in the month.
