Arsenal moved a step closer to signing Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain today as it was revealed that Italian side Juventus have pulled out of the race for his signature according to The London Evening Standard.

Higuain is widely expected to leave the club this summer after finding himself increasingly marginalised over the last couple of seasons.

The Argentine has often found himself on the bench in favour of French forward Karim Benzem and with the Spanish giants looking likely to sign another forward this summer, Higuain has decided to try his hand elsewhere.

It is thought that the striker has one eye on next summer’s World Cup finals tournament in Brazil and is keen to get first team football as he looks to book his place in the Argentina national team.

That could pave the way for an exit from the Bernanbeu although Madrid are unlikely to accept much less than £25 million for the player.

Juventus were thought to be alongside Arsenal in leading the race for Higuain’s signature but have reportedly baulked at the asking price and believe there is better value to be found elsewhere.

The Old Lady intends to turn her attentions to Carlos Tevez which leaves Arsenal in pole position to complete a deal for Higuain.
