Lille defender Aurelin Chedjou has snubbed the heavy interest from the Premier League in favour of a summer switch to Turkish side Galatasaray instead, Sky Sports reports.

The 26-year-old had been interesting the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United over the course of the season and had even spoken of his admiration of the Reds, saying: “Liverpool could be great. An enormous club with fantastic fans and the Kop to add.”

However, he now appears to have changed his mind on a move to Anfield, and England in general, by arriving in Istanbul to put the finishing touches on a move to Galatasaray.

He was pictured in a Galatasaray shirt last week as he agreed terms on a deal thought to be worth in the region of €6 million and €8 million euros (£5-6.8m).

Chedjou had made 34 appearances for Lille last season, scoring three goals and helping them to a sixth place finish.

He had made over 200 appearances for the northern French side since joining the club from minnows Rouen in 2007. At the time Rouen were plying their trade in the third tier of French football and he represented one for the future and Lille can now be pleased with the return they’ve got for him.
