Real Madrid look set to offer Cristano Ronaldo a new contract to stay at the Bernabeu and if he accepts, the Portuguese star will be the highest paid player in football according to Goal.com.
Ronaldo’s representatives and Madrid’s lawyers are in advanced talks over the contract which will see Ronaldo earn £132 million over five years, making it the most lucrative contract in football history.
The players current contact expires in 2015 and the player has been unsettled at Madrid for sometime, claiming in October that he was unhappy in the Spanish capital.
This led to speculation that Ronaldo may leave Madrid, with former club Manchester United waiting in the wings as well as big spending French clubs Paris St Germain and AS Monaco.
Rumours over the past few days reports suggested that Monaco were preparing an £85 million bid for Ronaldo and could offer him any wages he desired.
However, it appears Ronaldo will be staying at Madrid and looks set to sign the new lucrative contract.
After Portugal’s 1-0 win Russia last week, Ronaldo revealed his intention to sign a new contract and remain at the Spanish giants.
This will prove a disappointment to everyone at Old Trafford, who had hoped to bring the Portuguese star back to the club where he was so successful.
