To mark the 125th anniversary of the football league the powers that be have cleverly opted to arrange a number of opening day fixtures that feature a number of the league’s founder members.
Founding members will clash in the Championship as Derby host Blackburn at Pride Park. Burnley host Bolton in what is sure to be a blood and thunder derby.
Wolves will begin their League One campaign, which comes after back to back relegations, away to Preston at Deepdale.
The world’s oldest professional football ground, Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane will host the world’s oldest Football League club Notts County in another League One encounter.
In League Two, newest Football League member Newport County will host Accrington Stanley while Rochdale take on Hartlepool for the 137th time in their history – the most times two current Football League teams have played against each other, at Spotland.
