Liverpool have made a £5m bid for FC Porto attacker Christian Atsu according to the Daily Mail.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to land the Ghanaian international and are continuing to track Sevilla starlet Luis Alberto as he sets about making some significant alterations to his Anfield squad.

Having already brought in Kolo Toure and Iago Aspas from Man City and Celta Vigo respectively Rodgers is pushing on with moves to bring in further strength in depth, no doubt sensing that he is finally set to get shot of expensive mistake Andy Carroll, who is set to undergo a West Ham medical ahead of a permanent switch to the Upton Park side he spent a season on loan at last term.

Atsu moved to FC Porto at the age of 17 and after spending some time out on loan at Rio Ave the speedy attacker was drafted into the Estadio Dragao first team last season, making 17 Primeira Liga appearances to help his side to a domestic title.

Rodgers is clearly keen to build up a collection of young talents that he can build a side around for the coming seasons and moves to strengthen his attack are perhaps all the more relevant given speculation about Luis Suarez’s future, as well as taking into account the six matches he will have to sit out at the beginning of the new season.

Daniel Sturridge could also miss the beginning of the season with an injury he picked up on international duty and there are still question marks over the Liverpool future’s of both Oussama Assaidi and Fabio Borini, both of whom are yet to make a real impact in Rodgers’ first team set-up.
