Despite winning the Championship in 2011/12, Reading came straight back down from the Premier League the following year while fellow new boys Southampton and West Ham stayed up.
After parting company with Brian McDermott, Nigel Adkins took over at the Madejski Stadium towards the end of the season and was in charge of Southampton when they went up with Reading in 2012.
They will face a tricky start to 2013/14, playing Ipswich, Bolton, Watford and Blackpool in their first four games. All these teams will expect to be up there come the end of the season in the promotion chase.
Their run-in isn’t so bad, with games against Burnley, Middlesbrough and Doncaster, though they also face Leicester and Wigan in April in the crucial closing stages of the season.
