Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain according to the Daily Mirror.

The 25 year old Argentine is to become Arsenal’s club record signing with a £22m deal in place following the Bernabeu striker’s agreement to personal terms with the North London club.

The former River Plate forward has accepted personal terms on a deal in excess of £130k a week, which would make the Real Madrid ace the Gunners’ top earner.

Re-elected president Florentino Perez publicly stated that Higuain would leave Real Madrid this summer some weeks ago and now Arsene Wenger will look to wrap up the deal ahead of Arsenal’s Far East tour that starts in three weeks time.

Wenger has been looking to bring in a proven striker to help boost his Arsenal strike-force and having chased Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic the Frenchman has seemingly opted to bring in Higuain in preference to the Montenegro international.

Higuain will support Olivier Giroud and wide attackers Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott, with Auxerre youngster Yaya Sanogo seemingly a long term option.

Gonzalo Higuain has scored 122 goals for Real Madrid in his seven seasons in Spain, the last three of which saw Jose Mourinho use the French born marksman in something of a bit-part role.
