Defender wants highly rated ace to stick around in Catalonia.
Barcelona defender Gerrard Pique has told his teammate Thiago Alcantara that he wants him to reject the advances of club’s from elsewhere in Europe this summer, Sky Sports reports.
Thiago enhanced his reputation this week as he captained the Spanish under-21 side to European victory over Italy this week and even bagged a hattrick in the process.
Barcelona have previously stated that they hope he will stay at the club and continue to bloom into one of the finest midfielders in the world, but he is growing frustrated at not being able to break ahead of the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta and saw himself limited to just 15 starts in La Liga last season.
The likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and rivals Real Madrid are all reported to be monitoring his situation closely but his teammate, Gerrard Pique, has said that he hopes the youngster will bide his time and shun the interest shown in him from other sides.
“There is a possibility that he could leave but we have to convince him that the best place for him is Barcelona,” he said.
“Players in his position like Xavi were patient and they ended up defining an era.”
