Arsenal forward Gervinho admits he would be tempted by a return to the French Ligue 1 after reported interest from Marseille, according to Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old has had a difficult time adjusting to English football since joining Arsenal from Lille in the summer of 2011, having scored just eleven goals in two seasons at the Emirates Stadium.

His performances have earned much criticism from Gunners’ fans, and he now looks likely to take the opportunity to move on before next season, with Marseille one of many clubs showing an interest in France.

Old club Lille have been keen to take him back, and Lyon have also expressed some interest in taking him on loan, but he seems particularly open to moving to Marseille if the opportunity arises.

“If I want to leave Arsenal, there will be plenty of takers, Marseille being one,” the Ivorian said.

“They are a big club, I can say yes or no, but it is always flattering to see teams interested in you.”

Marseille finished second to PSG in Ligue 1 in 2012/13, and will want to maintain their challenge for the title with the emergence of big-spending Monaco. Gervinho would be seen as a good signing, as he is still highly rated for his successful time spent with Lille.

It is thought that Arsenal could also look to use Gervinho in a swap deal for Marseille’s midfield star Mathieu Valbuena.
