The agent of Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed that the young Belgian ace will be staying with the club after being assured by Jose Mourinho that he is a part of his plans, Sky Sports reports.

The 21-year-old has spent the previous season on loan with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, where he impressed despite the side enduring a rocky campaign, and he has been largely tipped to head back to Germany as Bayer Leverkusen wanted him as part of the deal that took Andre Schurrle to Stamford Bridge, as well as Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund also showing an interest.

However, a quick return to the Bundesliga may not be on the cards after all, as new boss Jose Mourinho decided to make him a part of his plans after watching him during a World Cup Qualifier against Serbia.

And his agent, Patrick De Koster, confirmed that the former Genk man will get his chance in west London.

“Mr Mourinho gave a phone call to Kevin, explaining a little bit the situation for next season,” he said.

“We didn’t receive any guarantees, but it’s normal in a team like Chelsea. It’s up to him to prove like he did in the last 18 months.

“A year and a half ago when he signed a contract at Chelsea, it was like a dream which became reality. Afterwards it was important for Kevin to put the right steps at the right moments.

“Kevin wants to play. Playing football, he became a better football player. I think he proved it staying six months more in Genk and last season in Bremen.

“He did very well. Now it’s up to him to prove the same thing at Chelsea.”
