Cardiff have joined the race to sign Celtic’s battling midfielder Victor Wanyama according to Sky Sports.

Wanyama has become one of the hottest prospects in Europe after a highly successful season with Celtic last season. The 21 year old was an integral part of the Celtic side that reached the latter stages of the Champions League before going out to Italian giants Juventus.

Wanayama was linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United during the previous transfer window although it is thought those clubs pulled out because of lingering question marks over the player’s ability to handle the pressure at the highest level.

That could pave the way for a move to Cardiff, with the Premier League new boys eager to bolster their squad as they look to build a team capable of avoiding relegation.

They are set to battle it out with Southampton who are thought to have been interested in Wanyama for some time.

Celtic are desperate to keep hold of the player though and will demand £10 million for his services despite signing him for just £900,000 from Beerschot in 2011.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are also thought to be ready to move for Wanyama should they be unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel.
