Welsh rivals Cardiff City and Swansea City are fighting it out in pursuit of in-form Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis according to Italian source CalcioMercato.

Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is keen to strengthen his Cardiff City squad ahead of what may well be a tough baptism of fire in the Premier League this season, and as such the pursuit of a top level signing like 27 year old French international Gomis makes a great deal of sense but one would imagine that Swansea City are the more likely of the pair to sign the lanky forward.

The pull of boss Michael Laudrup coupled with the prospect of Europa League football will surely see the Liberty Stadium side as the more likely to sign the former Saint-Etienne man but one would imagine plenty of other sides would be interested in Bafetimbi Gomis if he does indeed leave the Stade Gerland.

Lyon have ongoing financial problems that has resulted in the sale of many big name players in recent seasons and Gomis could be the latest to do so.

Gomis has scored 117 goals over the course of the last seven seasons and has ten national team caps to his name.
