Newly appointed Everton boss Roberto Martinez will look to lure two of his former Wigan Athletic charges to Goodison Park as he seeks to bring in summer additions to help boost his Toffees squad according to the Daily Mirror.

Latics chairman Dave Whelan has however warned the Spaniard that he won’t be able to raid the DW Stadium ‘on the cheap’ and has slapped big price-tags on pair James McCarthy and Arouna Kone, with the pair being on the Everton summer wish-list.

Wigan are said to want upwards of £20m for the duo, a price that Everton will struggle to meet given Bill Kenwright’s need to balance the books on each occasion the Merseyside outfit fork out decent money for a new signing.

However with speculation rife that Marouane Fellaini could leave the club it could be that Martinez would look to use money from the potential sale of the Belgian to foot the bill.

Ivory Coast international Kone had an excellent season last term, scoring 11 Premier League goals, and will surely be tempted by the chance to reunite with Martinez, especially as it would mean another shot at football in the English top tier.

Battling midfielder James McCarthy may also feel it’s the right time to leave the Latics, having been strongly linked with a high-profile move away from Wigan Athletic.
