Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes that Maurone Fellaini could be the Gunners replacement for former captain Patrick Viera according to Goal.com.

Viera left Arsenal in 2005 and the club have not won a trophy since the Frenchman’s departure.

The central midfielder played a key part in Arsenal’s successes during the early 2000’s and was considered to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

The Gunners have lacked that type of presence and solidity since Viera left but Parlour believes that Fellaini can give Arsenal that should he move to the Emirates.

“I would hope so, with the physical power he has got, and his performances at Everton have been fantastic,” said Parlour when asked whether Fellaini was the closest player to Viera in terms of physicality.

Arsenal reportedly have their biggest ever transfer budget to spend on players this summer and have wasted no time in spending it, with the Gunners in talks with Fellaini after they activated the Belgian’s £22 million release clause.

The Gunners also look set to sign Real Madrid’s want-away striker Gonzalo Higuain and have reportedly agreed terms with the Argentine and are set to agree a £22 million fee with the Spanish giants.

Wenger will hope his new signings push the Gunners towards the top of the Premier League table and end their long wait for some silverware.
