Southampton striker Billy Sharp has denied that he has completed a switch to recently relegated side Reading, Sky Sports reports.

The 27-year-old has just returned to the south coast from a season long loan spell with Nottingham Forest that saw him bag 11 goals in 31 appearances and is seemingly not going to figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and will likely head for the exit this summer.

He has been extensively linked with a permanent return to Forest but his former Saints boss Nigel Adkins is also keen to reunite with him at Reading as he is aware of the striker’s record in the Championship.

Reports had suggested that the two clubs had agreed a fee of £1.2 million with a medical already taking place to take Sharp to the Madejski Stadium, however, the striker has admitted that he knew nothing of it and a deal is still a long way from being completed.

“Don’t believe what you read. My loan’s finished at Forest, I have two years left at Saints,” Sharp said on Twitter.

“Just for the record, I haven’t had no medical.”

Sharp has managed just 10 goals in 18 games during his two years with the Saints.
