Tottenham have reportedly agreed a £17m deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Paulinho according to the Daily Mail.

Andre Villas-Boas has been pursuing the 24 year old Corinthians star for some months and the White Hart Lane side’s advances appear to have proved fruitful, with the Sao Paulo side having accepted the North London side’s offer for the goal-scoring midfielder.

The Tottenham boss is keen to strengthen a squad that just missed out on a crucial top four finish and will also be looking to prove to prized asset Gareth Bale that Spurs have the ambition, and finances, to bring in big name additions this summer.

The £17m fee will apparently trigger Paulinho’s release clause and this source believes that despite apparent interest from Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Roma it is Tottenham who are set to sign the Brazilian international.

Paulinho has netted 34 goals in four seasons at Corinthians but is also renowned for his tackling ability and is something of a box to box performer who currently edges out recent Man City signing Fernandinho in the Brazilian national team set-up and has recently netted in matches against both England and Japan this month.
