Barcelona are ready to step-up their pursuit of PSG centre-back Thiago Silva according to Spanish source Sport.es.

Nou Camp boss Tito Vilanova has been linked with numerous potential defensive targets as he looks to strengthen his threadbare defence, which only includes two experienced out and out central defenders in the form of Gerard Pique and veteran Carles Puyol, and will look to make a big money move for Brazilian international Silva.

Barcelona have been linked with interest in the former AC Milan for some months but the departure of Carlo Ancelotti may well give Thiago Silva the excuse be needs to jump ship.

The 28 year old has had an excellent first season at the Parc des Princes, helping PSG to their first domestic title in almost 20 years, as well as a quarter-final finish in the Champions League.

PSG’s defence conceded just 23 goals in 38 Ligue 1 fixtures and incoming boss Laurent Blanc will not want to lose the tough tackling defender.

Barcelona have already brought in Neymar for a reported fee of £48m and any further signings will have to be offset with player sales with the likes of Thiago Alcantara and David Villa expected to leave the Catalan club this summer.
