The midfielder will move to Old Trafford on a 5 year contract.
David Moyes looks set to make his first major signing as Manchester United boss by signing Barcelona play-maker Thiago Alcantara, the Daily Mirror reports.
United have been in detailed talks with Barcelona over the past few days and are set to pay just £15 million for one of Europe’s most wanted youngsters.
Thiago will sign a 5 year contract at United with the promise of regular first team football at Old Trafford.
The midfielder has ambitions to make Spain’s World Cup squad for next summer and will only do that if he plays regularly, which is unlikely at Barcelona with the 22 year old competing for a midfielder place with Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas.
Thiago has become one of the most wanted men in Europe following his hat-trick during the under 21 European Championship final against Italy.
United will beat Bayern Munich and Chelsea to the midfielder, who were both desperate to sign Thiago and although Barcelona tried to persuade the midfielder to stay at the Nou Camp, the Spaniard feels a move to Old Trafford will be best for his career.
United reportedly tried to sign Thiago two years ago with Sir Alex Ferguson said to be a huge fan of the Spaniard.
Now Moyes has followed up Ferguson’s interest and will make Thiago the centre-piece of his new-look midfield.
