Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is plotting an ambitious raid on his former club Liverpool for in-demand striker Luis Suarez, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish coach has just joined the Italian club after a spell as interim manager at Chelsea, and is expected to receive an injection of cash into the club when current star striker Edinson Cavani is sold for close to £54million.

Cavani is wanted by Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid, with the latter also targeting Suarez, but Benitez is confident of beating off competition for the 26-year-old.

Suarez has made it clear that he wants to leave England due to his poor relationship with the media in this country, but has also admitted that playing for Spanish giants Real Madrid is a childhood dream of his, perhaps making it unlikely that he would settle for a move to the Serie A runners-up.

The futures of the two players remain unclear, as Manchester City have reportedly pulled out of a move for Cavani over his big asking price. He is now looking likely to move to the Bernabeu, though it seems unlikely that Real would sign both him and Suarez.
