Roma’s new manager Rudi Garcia is hopeful that the club will be able to keep hold of midfield star Danielle De Rossi, according to Goal.com.

De Rossi has been with Roma for all of his career but is believed to be want a new challenge after having a difficult season for the Italian club.

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is known to be an admirer of De Rossi and could try to make a move for the 29 year old this summer.

However, Garcia still sees De Rossi as a huge part of his team going forward and wants to keep the Italian international at the club for the foreseeable future.

I’m working closely with [director of football Walter] Sabatini. We want to improve the squad but that first means retaining our best players – De Rossi is one of those,” he told a press conference.

One of Garcia’s main aims this summer will be to make Roma’s defence stronger and De Rossi will have a huge part to play in that, being one of the best holding midfielders in the world.

Although Garcia wouldn’t be drawn on specific transfer targets for Roma, he did say that he was interested in bringing players from Ligue 1 to the Italian side and possibility players from his former club Lille.
