Tottenham are to sign Corinthians midfielder Paulinho after the Confederations Cup following the acceptance of a £17m bid from the North London side according to the Daily Mirror.

The 24 year old is set to be Andre Villas-Boas’s first signing of the summer and will be handed a £70k a week deal, some three times his current salary, in the hopes that such an offer will convince the box to box performer to agree terms with the White Hart Lane side.

The Tottenham boss is keen to strengthen a squad that just missed out on a crucial top four finish and will also be looking to prove to prized asset Gareth Bale that Spurs have the ambition, and finances, to bring in big name additions this summer.

The reported £17m fee will apparently trigger Paulinho’s release clause and this source believes that despite apparent interest from Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Roma it is Tottenham who are set to sign the Brazilian international.

Paulinho has netted 34 goals in four seasons at Corinthians but is also renowned for his tackling ability and is something of a box to box performer who currently edges out recent Man City signing Fernandinho in the Brazilian national team set-up and has recently netted in matches against both England and Japan this month.
