The Daily Star claim that soon to be appointed Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is willing to sacrifice Cristiano Ronaldo in his pursuit of England striker Wayne Rooney.

With speculation rife about the 27 year old’s Old Trafford future Rooney is set for clear-the-air talks with David Moyes which revolve around the player’s alleged verbal request to leave Man United, a request the Man United man has categorically stated he never made.

Rooney is looking to Man United to issue a public climb-down on the issue, looking for the Old Trafford side to put on record that no such request was made, doing so would put the club in an awkward position given that former boss Sir Alex Ferguson repeatedly made the claim during the tail-end of last season.

This source talks of a £90m swap deal and values Rooney at £30m whilst stating that Ronaldo would cost £60m, which appears to suggest that any successful swap deal would involve Man United forking out a massive sum as well as their forward in part-exchange.

Chelsea are also said to be keen on Rooney whilst Arsenal’s interest could be stifled by the need to meet the player’s reported £250k a week salary expectations, far more than double the North London club’s top earners.

Both players have two years left on their current deals and perhaps discussions about the respective future’s helps their cause for improved contracts as it seems highly unlikely that such a swap deal will take place.
