Tottenham are ready to make an offer of £20m for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke according to the Daily Star.

Andre Villas-Boas is very keen to strengthen his attacking options and is ready to make a big money offer for the Villa Park hit-man, knowing that the success of any such bid would depend entirely on the powerful forward making a transfer request.

It’s highly unlikely boss Paul Lambert would voluntarily accept a bid for the 22 year old striker, even one that was almost three times the fee the Midlands side invested in Benteke, such has been the impact the Belgian has made at Aston Villa.

Benteke racked up 23 goals in all competitions last term, without which Lambert’s side would almost certainly have been relegated, but now the Aston Villa have to persuade the former Racing Genk man to stay at the club with the promise that the ‘Sleeping Giants’ can push on towards the top six next season.

Villas-Boas is keen to bring in quality striking options having seen Emmanuel Adebayor struggle last season and Jermain Defoe have a woeful second half of 2012/13, during which he managed just one goal in his last 15 Premier League fixtures.

Tottenham expect to welcome Brazilian Paulinho later this summer, with the North London club agreeing a deal with Corinthians for the box to box midfielder.
