Arsenal defender part of Monaco’s summer spending plans.Big-spending Monaco could join the chase for Arsenal defender and Bayern Munich target Laurent Koscielny, according to Mercato365.

The Frenchman has been a key performer for the Gunners since he joined the club from Lorient in 2010, and manager Arsene Wenger has often sold at least one key player each summer in recent times to help pay off the club’s debt since moving to the Emirates Stadium.

The main player being linked away this summer is Koscielny, who has emerged as a target for Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Pep Guardiola, formerly of Barca, has just taken over at the Allianz Arena and is a fan of the 27-year-old, and is supposedly willing to offer as much as £20million for his services.

However, they may now face competition from Monaco, who are looking to build a title-winning team with the backing of their wealthy Russian owner, and have already signed a number of big names this summer, spending over £100million on Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.

Arsenal may be forced to accept an offer if Claudio Ranieri’s side’s interest is genuine, as the money they are capable of offering may be too good to turn down.
