Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina could be set for a season on the clubs bench if Simon Mignolet completes his proposed transfer from Sunderland , the Daily Mirror reports.

Mignolet is expected to sign for the Reds next week after Liverpool had an £11 million offer accepted by Sunderland and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has promised the Belgian that he will be the clubs number one goalkeeper next season.

This could leave the hugely experienced Reina on the bench, unless the Spaniard finds another club before the end of the summer.

Reina has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and the Spanish giants are believed to want to replace current number one Victor Valdes with Reina.

Valdes only has one year left on his contract at Barcelona and has said he will leave next summer on a free transfer.

Barcelona may now take this opportunity to sell Valdes and use the money they re-coup to buy Reina as his replacement.

Barcelona are believed to be ready with a £10 million bid for Reina and could open up negotiations with the Reds once the Mignolet transfer has been completed.
