Arsenal are ready to make a bid of around £2.5million for Le Havre left-back Benjamin Mendy, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners may find they will have to double their offer however, as the French Ligue 2 side are holding out for closer to £5million for their star player, who is also attracting interest from Juventus, Sunderland, Cardiff and Lyon.

Mendy has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium before, though Arsene Wenger already has two good options in the left-back position in Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal, so it is unclear where Mendy would fit in to the current first-team setup.

However, Wenger is known for his fondness for finding and nurturing young talent, particularly from his native France, and may see Mendy as a good investment for the future.

The Frenchman is also chasing a deal for young Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo, despite also being in for bigger names such as Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic, and already having Olivier Giroud to play upfront.

Mendy could find the chance to work with this legendary figure in French football hard to turn down, though for now Arsenal are not necessarily leading the queue for the 18-year-old’s signature.
