Pepe Reina has said that he is looking forward to the arrival of Simon Mignolet at Liverpool, with the Reds set to complete the signing of Mignolet next week, Sky Sports reports.

Liverpool and Sunderland are thought to have reached an agreement whereby the Reds will pay £11 million for Mignolet and the goalkeeper is set to have a medical with the club next week.

The move for Mignolet has thrown Reina’s future at Anfield into doubt, with the Spaniard being heavily linked with a move to his first club, Barcelona.

The Spanish giants are thought to be ready to sign Reina as a replacement for current number one Victor Valdes, who is out of contract next summer.

However, Reina has said that he wants to stay at Anfield and see out the remainder of his contract and has welcomed the probable arrival of another top class goalkeeper.

“It has not changed a bit. I have said it many times, I’m very comfortable and very happy at Liverpool,” Reina declared at a press conference during the Confederations Cup.

“Every team needs competitors, and when it’s positive it is more than welcome. If it is finally done I’ll welcome him a lot, and anything he needs, I’m here.”

Brendan Rodgers is looking to increase competition with his Liverpool squad and the new arrival, Mignolet could start the season as Liverpool’s number one following an indifferent season in goal for Reina, who made a number of uncharacteristic errors last season for the Reds.
