Real Madrid have officially announced the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the successor to Jose Mourinho as Bernabeu boss according to the BBC Sport.

The Italian led PSG to the Ligue 1 title last term but has been strongly linked with a move to take over at Real Madrid ever since it became clear that Mourinho was to leave the Spanish giants.

54 year old Ancelotti will look to wrestle back the La Liga title from arch rivals Barcelona whilst looking to end a decade long search for a Champions League triumph.

The former Chelsea boss will no doubt be looking to spend big this summer but may first look to retain the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Laurent Blanc has moved to the Parc des Princes to fill the void left by Ancelotti, though has only signed a one year contract, which may lead to speculation that big spending PSG are eyeing up Arsene Wenger as a long term replacement.
