Former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff has said that he thinks the club should consider selling star player Lionel Messi now that Barca have acquired Brazilian striker Neymar, Goal.com reports.

Barcelona signed Neymar last month for £48 million and the player has been showing all his skills while playing for Brazil at the Confederations Cup.

Dutch legend Cruyff believes that the club can now survive without Messi and he can see problems with the two if the Argentine star remains at the Nou Camp.

“With Neymar on board, I would have planned for the possibility of selling Messi. Some would agree with me and others would not,” Cruyff told Marca.

“Neymar’s arrival could cause problems. Just look at free kicks for example. Neymar is very good at taking them. And Messi has already shown he is great, too. Who’s going to take them…

“Or the fact that Neymar and Barcelona are with Nike while Leo is with Adidas. These are situations that could cause problems”.

Despite Cruyff’s comments, Messi is very unlikely to leave the Nou Camp and the Dutchman’s comments are likely to shock Barcelona fans, who are looking forward to seeing Messi and Neymar play together next season.

It is possible that the two could form one of the most devastating partnership’s in the world and Barcelona’s fans will hope that they gel together during the clubs pre-season.

Having signed Neymar, Barcelona are hoping to sign a quality centre-back, with PSG’s Thiago Silva thought to be a target for the Spanish Champions.
