Gonzalo Higuain is seemingly on his way to the Emirates Stadium according to the Real Madrid striker’s brother Nicholas, who also acts as the Argentine’s agent.

Sky Sports has quoted Nicholas Higuain as stating;

“I think that Higuain is now closer to Arsenal,” he told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Juventus are a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them. Napoli are a strong side and that place represents a lot for Argentines.”

“Saying that, I can’t deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.”

The 25 year old Real Madrid striker is certainly set to leave the Bernabeu, with president Florentino Perez confirming his likely summer departure some weeks ago, and given that the other side closely linked with interest in the former River Plate man, Juventus, have now signed Carlos Tevez from Man City it would appear the chances of Higuain joining Arsenal have increased significantly.

Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen his attack and has brought in Auxerre youngster Yaya Sanogo but is clearly keen to bring in an established prolific forward to act as a potentially more effective long term replacement for Robin Van Persie than last summer acquisition Olivier Giroud.

Higuain has netted 122 goals for Real Madrid over the course of the last seven seasons, a handy total given that the French born forward hasn’t been a first team regular over the course of the past three seasons.
