Barcelona are reportedly ready to join the race to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney according to The Sun.

The England star’s future has been under constant speculation in recent months and former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the striker had handed in a transfer request just prior to his retirement.

Rooney is reportedly unhappy with life at Old Trafford as he feels under-appreciated by the Premier League Champions.

He has enjoyed a diminished role in the side ever since the arrival of Dutch striker Robin Van Persie last summer and is ready to consider his options.

Having previously been an automatic name on the team-sheet, Rooney found himself dropped last season for the club’s crucial Champions League last sixteen tie against Real Madrid.

Rooney was said to have been furious and relations have failed to improve between the player and the club’s management ever since.

It was hoped that the appointment of David Moyes, Rooney’s former mentor at Everton, as Ferguson’s successor might help to smooth things over but is appears Rooney remains keen to leave Old Trafford.

A number of top European sides are ready to offer him an Old Trafford exit route, including PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, and it appears Barcelona are ready to add their name to that list of clubs.

The Catalan giants are keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to pounce should the hard-working forward become available.
