The Spanish midfielder is a priority target for Chelsea this summer.
Jose Mourinho is set to raid his former club Real Madrid for Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso, Sports Direct News reports.
The Portuguese coach is hoping that Alonso could be available for around £7 million which would represent quite a bargain considering the midfielders skill and experience.
Although new Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is a fan of Alonso a move to Chelsea looks likely, with the Spaniards contract running out next summer.
Alonso is known to be interested in following Mourinho to Chelsea as the pair struck up a strong relationship during their time together at Real Madrid.
Mourinho is desperate to re-enforce Chelsea’s midfield this summer, especially in the holding midfield role and Alonso has become his number target for that position.
Chelsea were thought to be interested in Everton midfielder Maurone Fellaini but have been put off the price and they would face plenty of competition for the Belgian’s signature, leaving Alonso as Mourinho’s most likely target.
Reports have suggested that Mourinho may raid Madrid for more than just Alonso, with the Portuguese coach interested in bringing winger Angel Di Maria with him to Stamford Bridge.
Di Maria looks almost certain to leave the Bernabeu this summer, especially if Los Blancos sign Spurs winger Gareth Bale.
