Having welcomed in Fernandinho and Jesus Navas this month Man City have now set their sights on another high profile summer signing with Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini is readying a £25m bid for Real Madrid centre-back Pepe according to Italian source TuttoMercato.

Pepe found himself on the bench for the final few months of last term with Jose Mourinho opted to line-up Raphael Varane with Sergio Ramos as his first choice centre-back pair, leaving the Portuguese international to warm the subs bench.

It’s entirely possible that incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti may seek to use the same pair as his defensive unit and as such the Spanish giants could well consider offers for Pepe.

The chance of making £25m from the sale of a 30 year old may well be too tough to turn down though one wonders if Manuel Pellegrini needs to invest so heavily in a new centre-back given he has the likes of Vincent Kompany, impressive Serbian youngster Matija Nastasic and England’s Joleon Lescott to call upon there would appear to be enough quality in this area of the Man City squad.
