Old Trafford set to welcome PSV Eindhoven youngster.
Man United are apparently set to sign long term target Kevin Strootman with SportsDirect News suggesting that a deal is in place that will see the PSV Eindhoven youngster moving to Old Trafford on the 1st of July.
David Moyes is said to be closing on Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara but this source believes it will be Strootman who becomes the Scot’s first major signing as Man United boss.
PSV Eindhoven will be looking to garner at lest £15m from the sale of the 23 year old, who represented his country at the European Under 21 Championships in Israel this month.
Strootman & Mertens moved from Utrecht to the Philips Stadion side in a £10m deal two years ago and the pair have greatly impressed but have been unable to secure an Eredivisie title, with the Ajax clinching the domestic crown for three straight seasons.
Kevin Strootman is now a regular in Louis Van Gaal’s senior national team set-up and will certainly be keen on securing a move to the Premier League title holders where he would join forces with compatriots Robin Van Persie and Alexander Buttner.
The box to box performer is strong in the tackle and more than able to push forward to join the attack and given David Moyes appears to be looking to freshening up a midfield that has lost the services of Paul Scholes a move for Strootman would be a very wise one to pursue.
