Liverpool are reportedly one of the front-runners in pursuit of Real Madrid forward Jose Callejon who is set to leave the Bernabeu this summer according to Spanish source Marca.

The 26 year old has struggled to retain a foothold in the Real Madrid attack, this despite the fact that the former Espanyol man can play in a variety of positions, and Liverpool are joined in pursuit of Callejon by Napoli and Fiorentina.

Carlo Ancelotti is apparently set to give some of Real Madrid’s younger squad members a more prominent role in the first team set-up, with the likes of Jese and Alvaro Morata likely to be used more regularly, added to the fact that the La Liga side have signed Isco and the host of players already ahead of Callejon in the pecking order and it may be sensible for the squad player to consider his options.

Brendan Rodgers has already brought in two La Liga players this summer, signing Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas from Sevilla and Celta Vigo respectively.

Callejon may well be ready to attempt a new challenge and a move to the Premier League could well be more tempting than a Serie A switch.
