Sunderland are hoping to pull off somewhat of a coup by securing the signing of Tottenham’s Tom Huddlestone according to The Sunderland Echo.

The 26 year old England midfielder is reportedly considering his options at White Hart Lane as he has become increasingly frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities.

Huddlestone currently finds himself behind the likes of Sandro, Scott Parker, Moussa Dembele and Lewis Holtby in the Spurs pecking order and knows he is unlikely to feature prominently in the first team this year should they all remain fit.

His chances look set to be even further diminished if, as expected, Tottenham confirm the signing of Corinthians’ Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho.

Tottenham boss Andre Vilas-Boas is reportedly ready to consider offers for Huddlestone as he looks to secure additional funding for summer targets.

It is being suggested that AVB would consider an offer in the £5 million range. Sunderland are thought to be favourites for Huddlestone’s signature as the club are already in advanced talks over a potential move.

But that could be hijacked by Premier League new boys Hull, with Steve Bruce thought to be a firm admirer of the player.

The news is likely to be strongly welcomed by Sunderland fans who have so far had to ensure a summer being linked to Bosman free transfers or youngsters.
