Real Madrid are ready to make a world transfer record bid of £85m as they continue their pursuit of Tottenham attacker Gareth Bale.

The Sunday Times claim that Bernabeu president Florentino Perez will be campaigning on re-election on the basis of looking to put together a big money front-line that would, in theory, see the La Liga giants sign Gareth Bale and Liverpool ace Luis Suarez.

That would give Real Madrid the first quarter billion pound front-line, with Bale and Suarez joined by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in a fairly frightening attack.

Tottenham have stated their desire to keep hold of their 23 year old prized asset but an offer of this magnitude would be pretty much impossible to turn down and could perhaps even cause the Welsh international to push for an exit.

Bale scored 26 goals in all competitions last term and deservedly collected a number of accolades, however his efforts could not help his North London side clinch that all important top four finish which will in turn affect the White Hart Lane side financially.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy fought tooth and nail to keep Luka Modric for another season before giving in to Real Madrid advances but an offer of £85m may be more readily accepted.
