Croatian sources yesterday reported that Tottenham were to sign Dinamo Zagreb pair Tin Jedvaj and Alen Halilovic in a £17m double deal but now the Daily Mirror report that their North London rivals Arsenal could be set to hijack the White Hart Lane side’s move for the teenage pair.

Sportske novosti claimed that Andre Villas-Boas had won the race to sign the Zagreb based duo but Spurs could well yet see Arsene Wenger win the race to sign the starlets.

17 year old pint sized attacking midfielder Halilovic is dubbed the ‘Next Luka Modric’ and already has a full Croatian national team cap to his name and has been blooded at Champions League level, completing a total of 21 appearances for Dinamo Zagreb last term.

Jedvag is an uncompromising defender who is mature beyond his years and has been strongly linked with a number of Premier League sides since breaking onto the senior football scene early this year.

Wenger is of course well known for his penchant for bringing in youthful prospects and looking to help them fulfill their potential but many had assumed that the Arsenal boss would spend this summer looking to sign established experienced stars having already been strongly linked with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain, Man United striker Wayne Rooney and Everton powerhouse Marouane Fellaini.

However the Gunners boss has is perhaps looking to stay true to his footballing philosophy and has just confirmed the Emirates Stadium side’s first summer signing in the form of French Under 20 international striker Yaya Sanogo.
