Cardiff are ready to make an ambitious attempt to sign Benfica’s Oscar Cardozo according to The Daily Mail.

The Premier League new boys are desperate to bring in a couple of top quality signings as they look to hold on to their new found top flight status and avoid relegation back to the Championship.

Cardozo has experience at the highest level and has led the line for Benfica in a number of Champions League campaigns over the last few seasons.

But Cardozo is reportedly ready to leave the Portuguese giants after having a very public spat with manager Jorge Jesus.

The player has been attracting attention from a number of Europe’s top clubs and Cardiff will have to most fast if they hope to secure their man.

Manchester City are thought to be monitoring the player’s availability while a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce fell through at the last minute after the club failed to agree a wage package for the player.

Cardiff are hoping to line up Cardozo alongside Andreas Cornelius, their recent £8 million acquisition from Danish club FC Copenhagen.

Reports in recent days had linked Cardiff with Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis but it now appears that the striker is set for a move to Italy.
