Chelsea believe they are close to completing the signing of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani according to The Daily Mail.
The Uruguayan forward is currently one of the hottest properties in football after an outstanding couple of seasons for Napoli.
Cavani finished last season as the top scorer in Serie A as his goals fired Napoli into second place in the Italian top flight.
Those performances have not gone unnoticed and a whole host of top clubs have been vying for his signature over the last few months.
The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Manchester City have all been linked with the striker but it now appears that Chelsea have stolen a march on their rivals and are set to bring Cavani to the Premier League.
Chelsea have offered £42.7 million for Cavani which continues to be £11.2 million short of the player’s minimum fee release clause.
Napoli President Aurelio Di Laurentiis is keen to hold out for the full £53.9 million but with no other clubs appearing to be willing to match Chelsea’s offer, Jose Mourinho’s men remain favourites to land his signature at this stage.
Cavani has reportedly admitted the constant speculation is starting to get to him and is keen to conclude a deal sooner rather than later.
